My Voice Box

The Voice-Over Show Place

Just curious about how everyone finds their VO jobs. I'm in a small market where local VO is non-existent. I use Voices and get an occasional gig, but too few and far between. Anyone care to divulge?
Thanks,
David Stutzman

David, Join voplanet.com and tell them that Joe sent you. However, the annual fee is $225. but I think you'll br pleased with the offers that will come your way. Be sure to type my name in the referral window. if you should decide to do this. I think this place has it all over voices123.com. Good luck.

Thanks, Joe - I hope the chances are good at making that money back (do I have my sights low, or what? :) ). I'll check out the site. Hope you are doing well. Thanks again

Keep your head up, David, because this industry certainly take patience. Many of my clients are long-standing and continue to come to me for work. I'm also a member of voplanet and have gotten work through there. I prefer it to the other pay-to-play sites because they set the price and I don't have to get out-bid by someone willing to charge only $25 for a gig. And I don't have to audition for those I don't find fit my criteria.

I get a lot of new work from Craigslist, of all places. And I get out and meet, meet, meet at local events. That part was hard but it's been successful. Marketing yourself is 99% of the job at times. You'd be surprised at what is out there in your neck of the woods. Companies want a professional vo for their outgoing voicemail or the local ad agency needs a go-to vo. Get your name out there and that will help you a lot.

Network, network, network. I can't say it enough. Once I started networking I saw a big jump in clients and vo work. Hand out biz cards to the dry cleaner (does anyone go there anymore??), the store manager (someone has to do the in-store recordings!), the bus driver who may know of someone who could use you. You never know when an opportunity will pop up.

OOps, I just looked at the original date of this question. Sorry I'm almost a year late but I've only just joined. Best of luck!

Thanks for the reply, Mandy. It was an old question but still a pertinent one. I haven't been able to devote much time lately to VO, but i'm not giving up yet. I did join voplanet recently and I agree with you about the way they do things. Unfortunately there are fewer auditions than on some other sites.
Welcome to the site. I admit I haven't even visited here much lately, but I plan to.
Thanks again,
David
